About The Freemans

History, experience and spiritual wisdom are three attributes that can be used to describe the foundation of the Freeman ministry. Deeply rooted with family, the Freemans experience spans 30+ years. From Darrell’s entrance at age 16 with his family’s group, the Pathways, to Chris’s award-winning teenage years with the Hinsons, the Freemans know the ins and outs of Southern Gospel music.

No doubt, Chris’s unique sound is the reason she was the youngest female artist ever to receive the coveted “Queen of Gospel Music” award two years in a row (’76, ’77) as voted by the readers of Singing News Magazine. In 1980, the lives of Darrell and Chris Freeman became one when they married on August 2nd. After singing with the Pathways for three years Darrell and Chris headed for Nashville and began the Freemans. Joe Freeman, Darrell’s cousin, soon joined. them as the third part harmony, as well as their keyboard player. With this sound they have garnered tremendous growth and success.

In 1997, Darrell and Chris’s daughter, Misty, began playing acoustic guitar with the group on stage. Then in 1998, she began singing with them when they recorded Standing Out. Also on stage is Caylon Freeman, Darrell and Chris’s youngest child. He decided to join his family on the road full-time in 2002. He is now playing the drums and singing some with the group.

Now in their 20th year, the Freemans, still do approximately 250 dates a year, and continue to experience tremendous success.

Obituary for Hovie Walker

Obituary for Hovie Walker

A friend to everyone he met and a man who would give you the shirt off his back, Hovie Walker, went to meet his Savior he sang so well about in the early morning hours March 24th with his wife and two daughters at his side.

Hovie Walker was one of the greatest Bass singers to ever approach a microphone reaching lower notes than most any Bass singer today. Hovie sang with such groups as the Thrasher Brothers, Willie Wynn and the Tennesseans, the Statesmen, Leon Russell. After a time of reflection and returning to his calling Hovie joined Jim Murray, Sherman Andrus and Terry Blackwood and put together the Classic Voices or former “Imperials”. Lastly he sang with his wife, Sondra. Not only could Hovie sing great, but he could deliver a sermon with the best of them. Hovie was born to be in Gospel Music. He was named after Gospel Great Hovie Lister and was recently inducted into the Tri-State Gospel Music Hall of Fame.

Hovie was a person that treasured anything and everything that people gave him and more than likely he still has all of those things today. Hovie also couldn’t meet and talk with you without sharing a funny story. Some were just jokes he had heard, but others were stories from the road and you would laugh until your side hurt so for those of you who really knew Hovie, his family would like you to remember him by his famous last words “Hey, call me, I’ve got a joke!”

Hovie is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Jackson and Nellie Ada (Critteneden) Walker; brother, Kenny Walker; sisters, Wanda Williams and Zanda Leamon.

He is survived by his wife, Sondra Walker; two daughters, Keisha and husband, Steven Shelton, and Chelsea Lynn Walker; two grandchildren, Colby Graham and Adasyn Graham; two brothers, Cecil Walker and Bud Walker. Hovie is also survived by a host of relatives and friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be Ken Davidson, Jeff Walker, Lucas Walker, Justin Mercer, Brodie Logan, Raymon Whitt. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be James Dean, David Clark, John Foster, Jerry Brown and Fred Mercer.

Keisha Walker Shelton posted on her Facebook page. “At 1:42am CST my daddy, Hovie Walker, went to celebrate my birthday with my Granny. He is in his heavenly Papa’s and his Momma’s arms this morning. Please pray for us.”

Hovie would always come over to our table and tell us a quick joke and then abruptly turn around and leave while we were laughing trying not to choke on our food…. great memories.”

11th HOUR Scores 4th Consecutive #1 Song

11th HOUR Scores 4th Consecutive #1 Song

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – (March 22, 2017) – Cutting edge vocal trio 11th HOUR recently scored its most recent #1 hit single. The song, “He Welcomes the Beggar”, will take the top spot on the upcoming May 2017 edition of the Singing News Top 80 Monthly chart, the Southern Gospel industry’s most watched monthly radio airplay chart.

“He Welcomes the Beggar” is the fourth consecutive #1 single for the popular trio. It’s also the third single from their Absolutely Gospel Music Award nominated recording What a Moment. The song was written by group owner Amber Eppinette with award-winning co-writers Kenna West and Jason Cox.

“I am beyond humbled for this song to be #1,” responded Amber. “It’s my very first as a writer and that thrills my heart. I had such an amazing time writing it with my co-writers. They have become some of my greatest friends and mentors. Most of all though, this song is such a pretty picture of God and exactly what His grace will do. No matter rich or poor, He welcomes all in. To the world, Lazarus had nothing, but in reality he had EVERYTHING and so do we as believers in Christ.”

Co-writer Kenna West said, “‘He Welcomes The Beggar’ was an idea that the Lord gave Amber, and I remember thinking the day we wrote it how privileged that Jason and I were to chase it down with her. I’d never written a song based on the story of Lazarus and the rich man [found in Luke 16], so it was exciting to look into the window of scripture and prayerfully say something new—something that would not only speak to our hearts but to the hearts of the listener, as well. No kidding, I cry every single time I hear it.”

“He Welcomes the Beggar” follows in the footsteps of “Mountain Moving Faith” and “Can You Burn”, the first two singles from What a Moment (Sonlite Records) to reach the #1 spot.

11th HOUR has had a fantastic year thus far. The group started 2017 with seven Absolutely Gospel Music Award nominations including Song and Album of the Year (for “Mountain Moving Faith” and What a Moment). The group will be performing their Song of the Year nominated #1 hit at the 2017 Absolutely Gospel Music Awards Celebration on April 11, 2017 in Nashville, Tennessee.

The group also received a Top 10 nomination in the upcoming Singing News Fan Awards for Favorite Trio of the Year. Voting is now ongoing in the second round for this year’s awards.

About HIGHROAD

In a world where conformity is king and following the crowd is practically a survival instinct, the women of HIGHROAD, an award-winning Appalachian gospel group from Nashville who just happen to be the best of friends, too, have always preferred the road less traveled.

The group was awarded the 2015 AGM Female Group of the Year and worked with Grammy Award winning producer, Ben Isaacs.

And so it’s fitting that the trio’s album, which also features the girls’ inventive instrumentation, would bear the same name. Filled with the beautiful, harmonic melodies and vocals that have been the group’s hallmark, Sarah Davison, Kinsey Kapfhammer, and Kristen Bearfield, feel the songs from Somewhere I’m Going reflect their personal journey of being set apart.

About Michael Combs

After squandering many years living in the World and nearly destroying my life with drugs and alcohol, something wonderful happened in my life….or better yet SOMEONE wonderful happened to GIVE me life…His name is Jesus!I gave my life to Christ on a Monday night during a revival meeting in Jacksonville, Florida. That night was February 6th, 1989.Since that night many things have happened! Almost immediately God put me into a Ministry of Music! Never thought I would be doing what I’ve been doing for the last 25 years but now I can’t imagine myself doing anything else! There have been some valleys. I was dying of Liver Disease when The Lord rescued me. However, God not only saved my soul and placed within me a new heart….he gave me a new Liver too! I had a Liver Transplant on September 9th, 1991 at The University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. The Lord has allowed me to write and record songs that some call “classics” today. Many are sung in local Churches on any given Sunday. Lots of folks tell me they hear my songs sung at numerous Gospel Music Talent Contests. (What an honor!)I’ve been blessed to have traveled this country with my beautiful wife, Denise, for 25 years (and counting!). I not only get to share the songs….but my testimony as well! We have been blessed to see hundreds give their hearts to Jesus in our Services!Maybe one day we will get the opportunity to share this Ministry of Song and Testimony with you and your people… with your Community……..with the Whole World! Gospel Artist Jeff Stice Loses Father

Gospel Artist Jeff Stice Loses Father

Nashville, Tenn. – (March 8, 2017) It is with sadness that we report that, James Stice, father of Gospel Pianist and Artist Jeff Stice passed away yesterday March 7th. He slipped into the arms of his Savior peacefully in the presence of his family.

Jeff commented on his father’ passing, “At 7:00 last evening I held my Dad’s head in my hands and watched him take his last breath… then he went home… I’ve known this day would come, I’ve known he would finally give up this fight, but the Bible says, ‘To be absent from this body is to be in the presence of the Lord.’ My Dad was the greatest man I’ve ever known and he loved me in spite of my many mistakes. I would take NOTHING for the time I’ve spent with him these last three years. He loved me, plain and simple. ‘I’m gonna miss you Daddy, BUT I WILL SEE YOU AGAIN!!!’, Jimmy Stice was my Daddy and my hero!”

Please keep Jeff and the rest of the Stice family in your prayers.

We will update Mr. Stice’s arrangements as they become available.

About Jeff Stice

Jeff Stice, affectionately known as “Mr. Piano Man” is having an incredible musical journey and has reached pinnacles of great success in The Gospel Music World.

His love for the piano started at the age of 6. His mother played and every time she did, he would lie under the piano and listen. When she would finish, he would get on the stool, place his hands on the keys and begin to pick out the melody of some of the songs he had heard her play. At the age of 8 he began taking lessons and it was recognized early on that he had “an ear” for music. Jeff’s parents began to take him to Gospel Concerts where he immediately fell in love with “The Piano Players”.

As he began to grow older his love for Gospel Quartet Music began to grow as well. At the age of 15 he began playing for his father’s quartet, winning high school talent shows along the way. After Jeff graduated from high school he went on to major in Piano Performance at Western Kentucky University.

Shortly after, he was offered a position in The Rex Nelon Singers. While there, he received The FAVORITE YOUNG ARTIST AWARD by The Singing News Magazine. It was during this time that Jeff began to develop the art of communicating through his music. Featured on different solos each night, he would always seem to connect with the audience. To this day, Jeff credits Rex as one of his primary teachers and mentors.

In 1990 he helped form PERFECT HEART. It was during his time there that he received his first MUSICIAN OF THE YEAR AWARD from The Singing News Magazine. As a member of PERFECT HEART, Jeff began to venture on his own from time to time doing solo concerts, where he would play dramatic standards of Gospel and Classical Music as well as hand clapping Southern Gospel favorites. His impressions of RAY CHARLES, FLOYD CRAMER, ROGER WILLIAMS and LIBERACE, to this day, are audience favorites.

In 2002 he was offered an opportunity from LOUISE MANDRELL to put together a Quartet for her theatre in Pigeon Forge, Tn. Because of this, he helped form THE TRIUMPHANT QUARTET where he played for, arranged and produced their music for 12 years. Jeff also played in Louise’s orchestra on several occasions.

In February of 2014, Jeff went through a season of reflection and change. He enrolled in an intense discipleship program for three months. While there, he discovered God in a way he had never known Him before: “While sitting on a picnic table by a creek one afternoon, I felt God’s arms wrap around me. He drew me close and reminded me that he loved me unconditionally and that He had given me a gift to share. The gift of grace. For 46 years I had known about God, but now I know how to BE with God. So now, I have a testimony to share and I have a new song to play as I start a new chapter for my life.

Jeff is now in a solo career, doing Piano Concerts, producing projects for groups, soloists and other musicians and helping care for his parents. He is also currently enrolled and working on his Bachelors Degree from Louisiana Baptist University.
