Open Letter From Jimmy Reno

jimmyJimmy and Christa Reno

Birmingham, AL- Over the past few years I have had the privilege of traveling the U.S. and meeting many gospel music fans in my two tenures with Mark209. The support, love and encouragement I have encountered has been overwhelming during this period of time.

After a very successful Christmas tour with the group, I returned home to find some health issues with my daughter that required us to focus on her and her health. As my wife and I have dealt with these issues, we have earnestly sought through prayer the best decision for our family and the direction of my calling in fulltime music ministry.

As of February 2015, my wife, Christa and I have prayerfully reached the decision that I will retire from fulltime travel on the road. We have been seeking God and wise counsel about this decision and feel that this is the best option for our family moving forward.

I want to thank all of the gospel music fans who have embraced my family and lifted us up in prayer during this trying time. We ask for your continued support and prayers for my family and for Mark209 as they move forward. My wife and I look forward to the new doors the Lord opens for us and our family and we look forward to continuing sharing the gospel through those avenues.

The Sharps release new single, “His Love and Grace”

Fort Payne, AL (February 25, 2015) LGMA multi-nominated quartet, The Sharps are proud to release their second single “His Love and Grace” from their latest project Someday I Will. This single is a follow up to the group’s last single “He Built a Bridge” that was released in August 2014. The single “His Love and Grace” reminds us that God’s love is faithful and everlasting. The single is set to be released this week with Adam Knight, owner of AOK Promotions.

“His Love and Grace” was written by one of the group’s longtime family friend, Dewayne Taylor, who suddenly passed away in 2011. This tragic event inspired The Sharps to take the song and shape it into what is heard today.

Ben Sharp stated “His Love and Grace is a song that we hold close to our hearts. It’s a blessing each time we are able to sing this song because of the great picture that the song paints. Dewayne really must have had God’s touch when writing this great upbeat song. We believe God allows special people like Dewayne to be apart of your life for very special reasons, even if the effects are not seen until farther down the road. We are eager to see what God has planned for The Sharps and this song, we pray sincerely that it becomes as much as a blessing to those who hear it, as it is for us to sing it.”

The song “His Love and Grace” simply states that God’s love still amazes us each day. Encouraging others to find his grace that will last throughout eternity.

35 Golden Years for Gold City Quartet

Since the group’s inception in 1980, Gold City Quartet has become the standard to which all other quartets strive to meet. This Quartet’s legacy is rich and deep with talent, ministry and love for the Lord. The current line-up is no exception. If you ask these guys each other’s best attributes, they’ll tell you first that their success in ministry is a collective team effort. They are a great team as a whole.

One part of that team is Chip Pullen. Chip sings lead for the group and is a down-to-earth guy who is a great friend to have. He brings energy and excitement to the Quartet both on the stage and off. He is an asset to the group and you can see his heart for Christ with every word that he sings.

Robert Fulton is another part of this team. Robert sings the tenor part and is a self-professed nerd who loves trivia and game shows. He is the go-to guy if you want to be in the know on world events. He has a tender heart to serve and you can hear that when he shares the gospel from the stage.

Daniel Riley sings the baritone part and manages the group. Daniel is a constant source of encouragement for these guys. Not only does he pray for them, but he prays with them, as well. Daniel builds confidence in the lives of others and truly has a heart for ministry, in addition to being the man behind the details of running this successful quartet.

If you were asked to name an icon in southern gospel music today, the name Tim Riley would be on your short list. This Hall of Fame inductee has truly been famously singing the bass part for Gold City. He is the mentor of the group, resonating with each member as the ultimate voice of experience.

The other group members all agree they seek Tim’s advice and wisdom 4 editin all things, and his road stories can’t be rivaled. He has a real desire to reach the lost. Tim wants to see others make great music and perpetuate Southern Gospel. Reports of his progress since his recent stroke are positive. He is at home, in good spirits, and making great strides toward recovery.

Chris West is helping to hold down the bass part while Tim is recovering. Chris is a long time Riley family friend who has filled in beautifully. The guys say Chris is great to travel with and has become a real friend. He has a laid back personality and he really enjoys serving the Lord.

Another important member of this team is Bryan Elliot. One of the very best musicians in this business, Bryan makes the piano sound fabulous day in and day out while bringing glory to God. He is a devoted family man who has a wonderful sense of humor, and he genuinely cares for people and truly desires to see others come to a personal relationship with Christ.

The sound for this quartet has never been better and part of the reason the mix is always perfect is because of Chuck Howe, Gold City’s sound engineer and road manager. He is their resident MacGyver, fixing the most difficult problems with nothing more than a rubber band and drinking straw. Chuck is willing to help do anything and help anyone at anytime. He is invaluable to Gold City Quartet.

These men love their job and they love their Lord. They all share a firm desire to see people come to the salvation of Christ. They strive to encourage believers in their faith and further Southern Gospel music. Gold City Quartet has an historic legacy and a bright future, in fact; you could say it’s as bright as…gold.

Award-winning Tenor DAVID PHELPS Celebrates FREEDOM with All-NEW Recording

Acclaimed Vocalist Brings a “Ghost Town” to Life
Phelps Showcases His Vocal Prowess and Songwriting Talents
with New Release
NASHVILLE, Tenn.–February 23rd, 2015–GRAMMY®-nominated, classically trained tenor David Phelps showcases his award-winning voice and three-octave range on his all-new recording,Freedom (Gaither Music Group). Produced by Phelps and mentor/friend/gospel music legend Bill Gaither, the new release, scheduled to hit the streets on April 14th, underscores Phelps’ ability to bring music to life.
“Freedom is a bit of a return home for me,” he describes. “I love that the first song starts with the lyric, ‘I’m back again….’ As the song ‘I’m Coming Home’ unfolded I knew that it had to be the first song on the project. I began my recording career with a project that included songs like ‘End of the Beginning,’ ‘Let the Glory Come Down’ and ‘No More Night’ – a gospel release with an eclectic mix of modern pop and soulful ballads. I will always be an eclectic artist, and…I’ve been honored to record rock ballads, traditional pop songs, classical arias and gospel standards.”
Fans will enjoy more of those gospel standards on the new recording, which includes Phelps’ haunting rendition of the classic hit “Ain’t No Grave,” an acoustic-driven version of “When the Saints Go Marching In” and a signature recording of “We Shall Behold Him.”
In addition to gospel favorites, Phelps contributed nine new songs that he wrote or co-wrote to the release. He addressed topics such as humility, brokenness, awe, faith, doubt, hope and freedom as featured in the title cut that required some soul-searching.
“The central theme of Freedom emanates from the title song, ‘Ghost Town (Freedom),’” explains Phelps. “I began writing the era-based lyric in the verses and was amazed how the metaphor of Christ painted itself. However, I got to the chorus and was stuck. After playing it for Bill (Gaither), he agreed that it needed something different than what I had. I went back to the drawing board.
“I asked myself, ‘What is all this about? It’s not really about a ‘Ghost Town’ or a metaphor or even the specific deeds of Jesus. It’s about why He did what He did: freedom!’ So much of our spiritual lives (and the songs on this project) are spent searching for or trying to cling to freedom.”
The recording features Phelps’ anticipated powerhouse vocals along with musicianship from a who’s who of Nashville talents including Gordon Mote, Chris Rodriguez, Danny O’Lannerghty, Greg Ritchie, Sam Levine, David Davidson and Jack Jezzro among others. The orchestrations were penned by Phelps, Mote, Steve Mauldin and Kristin Wilkinson. The rest of the Gaither Vocal Band – Bill Gaither, Wes Hampton, Adam Crabb and Todd Suttles – were on hand to perform some of the project’s background vocals.
“I truly feel like these songs are a part of me,” Phelps explains. “They are snapshots of where I am on my journey, and my hope is that they are told in a way that others can relate to and be encouraged by. I am far from perfect and depend on grace every moment of every day. I hope that Freedompaints a real portrait of living faith as I learn and grow on my journey.”
Freedom will be distributed through Capitol Christian Distribution and will be available throughout general market stores and the Christian marketplace in addition to online retailers including iTunes,Amazon and
The release will be positioned heavily at retail, via catalog placements and through a direct TV campaign, beginning in April, on networks including DISH TV, DIRECTV, AT&T Uverse, PBS, GaitherTV, TBN, FamilyNet, CTN, GMTN, Guardian, Liberty, RFD, TCT and TLN. The campaign will also air in Canada on Vision TV, The Miracle Channel, Grace TV and CTS.

An Open Letter From Karen Peck Gooch

February 19, 2015

Hey Friends:)

My husband, Rickey Gooch, is the strongest and hardest working man I know. It is an honor and a blessing to be his wife.
A few weeks ago, Rickey discovered a knot in his neck. After consultation with his doctor Rickey was prescribed two rounds of antibiotics. After the knot did not go away, additional testing was ordered.

After a neck scan, two biopsies, a CT scan and a PET scan, Rickey was diagnosed with squamous carcinoma, a type of cancer. Thank the Lord, the cancer is confined to Rickey’s left tonsil area and has not spread anywhere else within his body. As a result of this diagnosis, Rickey will begin a series of treatments in the coming days. The doctors feel very confident that the treatments will be successful and this will soon be behind us.

During the weeks Rickey and I have been dealing with this, the Lord has shown us such mercy and grace. He has reminded us of His sovereignty and even when we were at our lowest, we could feel His loving arms wrapping around us and covering us with peace that surpasses all understanding. Truthfully, we would not have made it this far without the Lord. Even though we are devastated, we realize the Lord is strengthening us more every day as we move forward.

Because of this situation Rickey and I stayed home for a few days to attend doctors appointments. We are so proud of our group, though, as they continued to travel to honor our commitments. Rickey and I want to offer our sincere appreciation to Katy Peach for filling in for me and doing an amazing job. Also, we give special thanks to Susan, Jeff, Matthew, Kari, Tripp King, and Danny Jones for stepping up and doing what needed to be done. Audiences were blessed and we were thrilled to learn that some even accepted Jesus as their Savior. Praise the Lord!

Rickey and I will be back on the road this weekend. We want to thank everyone for the love you have shown our family. We love y’all dearly. Please continue to pray for Rickey. We know that God will make this trial a blessing.
